I admit it. I did it. I love the look of beautifully manicured nails. I am like every other woman out there who gets frustrated when the polish chips after the first day. I have always admired the no-chips on others & finally convinced myself that it was a great idea. I knew going in the health risks....yet I still went in. Right before Christmas I had my first no-chip. I loved it! January came my nails were still looking good and they felt incredibly strong. Once they started growing out I knew I had to get it taken off. I went to a reputable popular place...they started by soaking my nails in acetone then proceeded to take a small drill and an orange stick to remove the rest of my polish. Again...I KNEW this wasn't good...but it was so convenient and so pretty! I had her reapply...yes using UV lights...saying to myself this would be the last time. Until 3 weeks later when I DID IT AGAIN! BTW...this IS the definition of insanity. Needless to say last week I went & had it taken off. I left with plain old polish. Next day I cleaned the kitchen and the chipping began. Frustrated I took it off. My once strong, healthy nail started peeling off with it. It has been a week and they actually hurt they are so damaged. They bend like crazy and are ripping off like there is no tomorrow.
This may seem silly to some of you....but to me...really I know better!
After some initial research refreshing my brain about the UV damage & the acetone...I read about how after just one time of having no-chip a recent study claimed the nail is thinned by 50%. REBUILD time, reboot time. I certainly do not need to up my risk of cancer for pretty nails!
So here we go...REHAB time for my nails. Nails need protein, nutrition & hydration. That makes sense...protein, food, water...check. I am naturally taking my Super Trio but I am adding in a hair, skin & nail formula HSN contains 2 of the richest sources of organic silicon in the planet kingdom: horsetail & dulse. Silica is an element that works with calcium to improve strength and flexibility of structural components of the body. Silica is is a nutrient that helps prevent fingernails from cracking, hair from splitting and bones from becoming brittle. Boom....2 caps 3 times a day for me! I am also going to start soaking my nails in warm milk with vitamin E and keep them hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
Lesson learned for me. I will still admire pretty polished nails on other women...but as for me...I'm going to pass :)
